A little about me...
My name is Jess Dukes.
First and foremost, I am a Wife and Mom to two boys, Ben and Mason.
I recently quit my full time job in corporate America and I am fearlessly pursuing my passion in fitness and nutrition. I am a Fitness Coach and I help other women get fit and healthy in the privacy of their own homes through my virtual fitness groups.
My passion for fitness and health began back in October 2012 when I found myself sitting at 215 pounds. I never struggled with my weight growing up. I was active, played sports and loved running as a hobby in college. Once I graduated college and got myself a big girl job in the corporate world, I found priorities shifting. Going to happy hour with coworkers and relaxing after a long day at work became more important than making it to the gym. My world started to revolve around food. Food became my comfort when I was sad, my reward when I was happy and something for me to do after work. Before I knew it, I had gained over 80 pounds.
I was in denial about my weight for a while. I knew I gained weight, but I always told myself that I didn't look as heavy as I was. Slowly the comments from friends and family started to roll in.
"I remember when you used to be the skinny friend..."
"Jess, you really have put on some weight..."
These comments started to make me face the truth: I had gained weight. I slowly started to realize the consequences of my weight gain. I was always out of breath. Putting on my shoes had become a struggle. I was always tired and exhausted. But more than anything, I wasn't happy. You know - I had a lot of things I wanted out of life like getting married, having children and just enjoying life. I knew I needed to learn to love myself in order if I ever wanted a man to love me.
I had my 'ah-ha' moment at a WICT event. We were asked to write our top ten accomplishments and disappointments for 2012. My list of disappointments put my accomplishments to shame. It was right then that I realized that it was not normal for a 23 year old to be that miserable. I took a good hard look at my disappointments and realized a theme: my weight.
I am a firm believer that you cannot complain about something if you aren't willing to make a change. So, that day I made a change.
I started exercising and slowly changing my eating habits. I didn't make changes overnight, they were slow.
Within six months, I had lost 50 pounds. By month seven, I met my husband. I loved that he shared my passion for fitness and health. He supports me and encourages me to reach my goals.
We got married in December of 2013 and we had our first son in October of 2014. Our second son was born in November of 2016.
I worked really hard to have a fit pregnancy and am now working to get my body in the best shape ever. I have lost a total of 75 pounds mainly with at home workouts and a portion control meal plan.
I am now a full time Fitness Coach, working on paying it forward and helping other women get in the best shape of their life. Getting fit has changed my life and I have this huge passion for helping others do the same. I want to help YOU get in the best shape of your life and live your life to the FULLEST!
